Battle of the Interns

So Kings of War fever continues in force culminating last night in the greatest battle the world has ever seen – the Battle of the Interns!

Ok, so not that great, but after Chris’ thumping at Maelstrom’s fantasy tournament a few months back we thought we’d give him a chance to redeem himself against our new intern, knowing he wouldn’t let us down…

… how wrong we were!

Chris lost his first game of KoW to Josh, Rankings HQ number 1 40K player and generally all-round beardy power gamer.

Wonder how this turned out...

Wonder how this turned out...

Of course, this doesn’t compare to Ronnie’s epic record of 2 epic losses, but still, it’s character building ain’t it?

After their first taste of the game both guys are now adding new units to their armies – Josh is adding more Revenants to his horde and both players are eagerly looking forward to the new army deals that are being put up on the website at the end of the week. With even greater value and lots of cool stuff in them (including the Zombies!!!), keep your eye of the blog and the newsletter for all the latest goss! Until then, why not check out what units you could add to your existing armies and let’s get preparing for the public beta.

Until then, I’m off to try and knock the interns down a peg or two – until tomorrow!

First ever Kings of War game!

We at Mantic Games were so excited last night!

Alessio Cavatore dropped in to show us the first draft version of our up and coming rules set. We just had to play!

Ronnie and Mat played the first ever Kings of War game, and both enjoyed it immensely. The rules are very much still in the Alpha testing stage, but the rules flowed well leading to an exciting, tense game, with Mat emerging victorious, and Ronnie bitter in defeat.

Here are a few pictures taken during the game:Ronnie and AlessioElves march to WarThe Undead ready to over-run the Elves!

The beta rules will be availble for free download soon!

So keep watching the blog and newsletter for all of the updates.

Mantic Kings of War Weekend Continues!

We’re not going to tell you what’s coming up today however, you’ll have to keep a beady eye of the BoW site but I can tell you if it anything like the other videos they’ve been putting out, you wouldn’t want to miss out!

Here’s a little taster of what’s been on so far:

Week of the Living Dead – You’re looking a bit pale, are you feeling ok?

Week of the Living Dead – Zombie Greens

Today here at Mantic we are all really excited as we get to show you your first real look at the 3-ups for our new Zombie set. Ronnie just couldn’t wait to share his thoughts with you.

Week of the Living Dead: From the Sculptor’s View Part 5

“Isn’t it funny how sometimes you feel as if you’ve got it right – hit the nail on the head etc..

I with the rest of Mantic have noticed that there has been considerable comment on the Web regarding our Ghouls – you have been kind enough to give us lots of positive feedback on those models (we love ‘em too!)

One issue that kept arising was the notion that our Ghouls were a little too ‘aware’ as undead – possibly too aware to be good zombie figures.

Well . . .   .       .                 .                           .

That’s just what we had thought too! We knew that in the undead pantheon that ghouls occupy a specific place in our fantasy wargames mythos ie they are the human guys who run about in a flesh crazed frenzy, rabid for the blood of the enemy.

Now Zombies – they are different. Necromantically raised from the ground, these are once dead bodies shamble across the battlefield, puppets of their evil master, their bodies in varying states of decay and disassembly.

So in making our Mantic Zombies we deliberately took into account our Ghouls – the Zombie models are designed to crossfit with the Ghouls giving you even more variety in your undead horde.

Again we’ve had a bit of ‘ManticFun’ – we have included a base which allows you to model a Zombie without legs – this little piece is similar in design to the ‘emerging skeleton’ base in our Skeleton warriors and Revenants sets. Of course we’ve also added a couple more little touches that we think you’ll appreciate…!

Bob”

ED: We’re bursting with excitement at the moment at the thought of Zombies (maybe there’s something wrong with us?) so couldn’t resist giving you a little sneak peak at some of the early work-in-progress sculpts that Bob kindly photographed! Check back for more tomorrow!
