“The Plague are an important race for the Warpath universe,” said Ronnie Renton, CEO of Mantic Game, “Sci-fi undead is a staple archetype across the genre and after the popularity of our Kings of War zombie kit, we think we’ve really hit the nail on the head with another knock-out kit full of great sculpts and characterful poses – all at the prices you’ve come to expect from Mantic Games. Deadzone simply gives us the platform with which to launch this race.”

It’s (Heat) Hammer Time

The Thorgarim are a brethren of Forge Fathers that specialise in the use of the heat hammer, devoting their entire life to mastering the use of this most awesome of close combat weapons. No enemy tank can hope to survive a close encounter with the Thorgarim, or indeed any creature that is foolish enough to engage them in melee.

The reverse of the Doomstorm pattern Iron Ancestor, sometimes the situation just calls for more-hammer – and these guys have them spades. Enter the Thorgarim close assault unit.

The Forge Fathers are back for February! Advance Order the new Forge Father Thorgarim as either a new box-set or as part of Dargo’s Veteran Company – a new 50 figure bundle that includes 2 Iron Ancestor Doomstorms and 20 Stormrage Veterans!

Might of the Elders

An Iron Ancestor that has been converted to the Doomstorm pattern sacrifices its great melee hammer in order to mount a second double hailstorm cannon. This means a loss of flexibility and effectiveness in close quarters, but it also means that the Iron Ancestors’ firepower now rivals that of a Jotunn Heavy Hailstorm Cannon!

Nethyr Edge Forge Fathers

by Chris Webb

In anticipation of great things for Warpath this year I kicked off a
Forge Father army. I want my units of Steel Warriors to look
uniform – so they’re all based on the helmeted plastic Warrior and
cloaked legs. The Thane is picked out with a pieces from the Dwarf
sprue – a pair of helmet wings, a trusty Cyberpug and a mug of beer.
The Mjolnir rocket launcher had its head carved away and replaced with
a plastic one as it’s important that the whole unit matches. My next
unit of Steel Warriors will all have the metal helmets from the
upgrade pack.

I chose the orange and light grey scheme to emphasise the science
fiction nature of the models. It’s very easy to make space dwarfs
look like normal dwarfs by choosing metallic colours or earthy greens
and browns. I wanted people’s first impression of the army to be
“Clone Troopers! Oh, aren’t they a little too short for a Clone
Trooper?” rather than “Rustic fantasy dwarfs, but with lasers!?”

With the infantry done I wanted an Iron Ancestor. I’ve painted two
studio copies for Mantic, and was dying to keep one. I bulked out the
base with bark and spare Mantic skulls to make the model look more
imposing. I’m working on a tin foil banner to give the model even
more height, and also let me design some iconography. I want the army
to have squad markings, campaign badges and personal heraldry in time.

What’s next for the army? First, they need a Huscarl to lead them.
I’m using a spare DreadBall Guard converted with the Huscarl
six-shooter – I did have aspirations of expanding my actual DreadBall
team with this bonus Guard model but my last league match saw five
players killed by a combination of Payback and Buzzcut. Then I’d like
a whole section of Stormrage Veterans converted with matching helmets.

Forge Fire

When we released the Warpath 2.0 rules, there were a few discrepancies between the Forge Father sets and the Force List, so we’ve taken the opportunity in February to sort that out!

Here’s the newly configured Drakkarim Team – 1 Thane and 4 Troopers with Dragon’s Breath Flame Throwers!

The Drakkarim are the highly specialised assault troops of the Forge Fathers. They are deployed at high speed by Drakkar transports right in the heart of the enemy lines, causing havoc with their fearsome Dragon Breath flamethrowers and ferociously charging into any survivors.

The Forge Fathers are back for February! Advance Order the new Forge Father Drakkarim as either a new box-set or as part of Dargo’s Veteran Company – a new 50 figure bundle that includes 2 New Iron Ancestor Doomstorms and 20 Stormrage Veterans!

Packing Heat

The Thorgarim are a brethren of Forge Fathers that specialise in the use of the heat hammer – so skilled are some heroes that they wield them in one hand, blazing away with a Hailstorm Pistol as they close with the enemy.

Earlier last year TableTop Insider ran a unique piece of cover art depicting a Forge Father Hero. Well, now there’s a mini for him too – and here is he!

A great alternative to the Forge Father Huscarl or a fantastic model to drop in in place of the Thorgarim Sergeant.

The Forge Fathers are back for February! Advance Order the new Thorgarim Hero as an individual Blister or as part of Dargo’s Veteran Company – a new 50 figure bundle that includes 2 New Iron Ancestor Doomstorms and 20 Stormrage Veterans!
